In October 2014, the Uranquinty Progress Association in conjunction with State Emergency Services, Wagga City Council and the local community held an emergency planning day - Exercise Wirraway. The committee aimed to increase the awareness of local flood risk; gathering and providing localised information to improve the efficiency of a future enactment of the plan, and garnering support from the community.

This proved to be a great initiative and one which the SES would like to replicate in other small, flood-prone villages in the local area. Following on from the Uranquinty Community Safety Group (UCSG) emergency evacuation day in October 2014, a community barbeque will be held at the Community Hall on Saturday 9 May which will continue the process of informing the community about emergency safety plans.

Wagga Wagga City Council will provide the opportunity for Community Consultation on the Village Overland Flood Flow Studies at the Community Hall on Tuesday 24 March from 7pm. More information on flood planning is available here.

We look forward to seeing members of the community at both these important information sessions so everyone is fully informed about emergency planning procedures.  Please come along with friends and family and find out more about this important strategy for the village.
